REBUILDING AFTER A FIRE.....HOW TO START A FULL SERVICE PROJECT
We are proud to share a project that is a perfect example of a client utilizing the thorough process CKID has developed and all the available CKID services from space planning to art selection. Not only do we bring innovative design ideas but also the deep technical experience that understands the inter-relationship of all aspects of architecture, design and construction to anticipate and prevent potential execution challenges. Our relationships with local galleries, makers, showrooms and craftspeople allow us to complete a large project down to the last detail. An estimated 42 firefighters from 4 local fire departments responded to a tragic home fire in 2017 leaving a Mercer Island couple needing a cohesive design and construction team to rebuild their home so they could get their lives back in order. A team was quickly formed after the clients met with Gallagher Co, Sturman Architects and CKID who had worked together previously and had the range and depth of knowledge to expertly lead them thru the rebuilding process. As CKID began to recreate the interior of the home the project shifted gears from a replacement to the building of a very customized home including full furnishings, art and accessories that far exceeded the client’s original expectations and resulted in their dream home.
The exterior of this classic waterfront craftsman home was repaired to its original state
The craftsman entry door was spared in the fire; the double doors to the home office and the stair rails were newly designed to further highlight the craftsman style of the home. CKID selection and procurement of twin ceiling lights, a custom oversized runner and a simple entry bench made this extra long entry area warm and welcoming.

The dining room was opened up with new doors to the deck and a wide opening to the kitchen, allowing for ease of entertaining and an expanded view of Lake Washington. The clients love of blue is seen throughout this inviting home.
The kitchen was rearranged and a large working island with a classic farm sink was installed to open up the flow to the adjacent dining room and eating area. The kitchen is in constant use and the custom cabinets have a place for everything including two fully integrated dishwashers.
The cornerstone of this serene master bedroom is a custom upholstered bed by CKID. A new window seat utilizes a formerly vacant window alcove making a relaxing spot to take in the view of Mount Ranier.
The former master bath was large and sparse, rendering it uncomfortable. CKID, using years of bathroom design experience, selected materials, colors, lighting, fixtures and accessories to give the couple a pleasant place to begin and end their day.
Key elements include a steam shower, massage tub, reve bleu marble, moroccan zellige tile & vintage accessories.
